Teeth Whitening Aftercare: The First 48 Hours
The first 48 hours after a whitening session matter. Your teeth are more prone to picking up colour during that window, so a little care right after your appointment helps your results last. Here's what we tell every client at The Smile Bar.
Follow the white diet. For 48 hours, stick to light-coloured foods and drinks, and avoid the usual staining culprits:
- Coffee and tea
- Red wine
- Dark sauces (soy sauce, tomato-based sauces, curry)
- Dark berries and other deeply coloured foods
Skip smoking. Avoid smoking and tobacco during the first 48 hours — it's one of the fastest ways to dull a fresh result.
Brush gently. Keep up your normal routine with a soft touch: gentle brushing, and lukewarm water if your teeth feel sensitive.
After 48 hours: you can ease back to your normal diet. Over time, everyday habits — coffee, tea, red wine — will gradually affect your shade. Results typically last 6 months to 2 years depending on diet and habits, and touch-up sessions are how returning clients maintain their shade — a Touch-Up Session at The Smile Bar is $100 + HST. As general guidance, most clients refresh every 6–12 months. More booking and aftercare questions are answered on our FAQ page.
48 hours of the white diet, no smoking, gentle brushing — then touch-ups as needed keep your shade where you like it.
